Hey Aaron==It is a pretty big job but if you feel up to tackeling it get you a shop manual on your car. It will have pictures and everything. Good luck Joe
Replacing the head gasket on any vehicle is a long and complicated process, however if you wish to see basic step-by-step instructions go to the related question on the right side of the page "How do you replace a head gasket?"
You have many things bolted to the head that have to be removed or disconnected. If and when you get the head removed, replace the gasket with a new one. You best go to your local library or local auto parts for a Ford service manual. You will need tools. The books aren't always complete so be prepared for some brain storming and other problems. AND - you have to put it all back together again. LOL
replace head gasket
My '01 Focus just blew its head gasket. The mechanic quoted me at $1200. At ford Dealer ship? Yea have fun spending that kind of money. The gasket itself you can pick up for 30$ max. Find someone who knows even a little about a car, and they will prolly do it for 50$ and a six pack of beer. My friends have replaced a head gasket on a civic and its really easy if u know what your doing.
My ford truck key fits and starts my taurus! But that might be because the switch is worn, but you might want to try a couple different ford keys before tearing off the steering column. there were answers for hard way also, here is one way that might work although it doesnt sound very easy to me: http://www.ford-forums.com/ford-taurus/4345-how-replace-ignition-switch.html
A blown head gasket on a 94 Ford Crown Vic is fixed by removing the cylinder head, cleaning the gasket surface, and installing a new gasket. The head gasket is extremely important as it prevents oil and water from mixing and contains the vehicle's combustion.

I stick the gasket to the pan and then screw it lightly on with the screws finger tight, then tightening with a 1/4 socket on opposite sides. (ie don't go around it in a circle )
Only the 1999 Ford Taurus SHO has a timing belt. The engine is built by Yamaha and NO it is not an interference engine. Replace the belt at 100,000 miles. All other Ford Taurus's have timing chains.
To replace front parking light on a 1999 Ford Taurus, lift the hood and remove the bolt holding the parking light housing cover. Twist the parking light off and replace with a new one.
Yes, a 1999 Ford Taurus Sho Engine will fit in a 2007 Ford Taurus.
There is only one fix. Remove and replace the gasket. This is a major repair that should only be attempted by an expert.
You do not need to replace the timing chain because there is no timing belt at all on Ford Taurus. It has a timing chain.
