Air pressure is what makes the ink change colors as it flows from the pen onto the paper. Without air pressure, the ink would remain colorless and, therefore, invisible on the paper.

Compare air pressure on earth to air pressure on the moon?

The moon has no air pressure because the moon has no air.

Why does the ink flow out of the fountain pen when the plane slowly gains height?

Pressure. That's the short answer. Back when people used fountain pens as a matter of course, aeroplane cabins had variable pressure throughout the flight. Pens, shampoos, potato chip bags, etc. expand, pop, or leak at high altitudes is because of low air pressure. The air inside a sealed container holds the pressure of the environment when it was closed. If this container travels up, to Denver or up in an aeroplane, the air pressure --barometric pressure-- of the environment becomes lower than it was closer to sea level. The container expands in dimensions or leaks in an attempt to equalize the pressure. These days people use ball point pens and they're pens don't leak. ;) Actually, these days commercial aeroplanes have better seals and climate control systems. However bleeding fountain pens may still be a problem because the pressure during the flight will decrease to that of a mountain city. According the Boeing (plane manufacturer) "The cabin air system in today's jetliners is designed to provide a safe, comfortable cabin environment at cruising altitudes that can reach upwards of 40,000 feet. At those altitudes, the cabin must be pressurized to enable passengers and crew to breathe normally. By government regulation, the cabin pressure cannot be less, at maximum cruise altitude, than the equivalent of outside air pressure at 8,000 feet." However, the container/luggage hold is outside the climate control system. Therefore, shampoo in your luggage may still ooze. Hint: puff the air out of the bottle when you pack, and put in a sealed ziplock-type bag in a luggage pocket.

Why are you advised to empty ink from your fountain pen before boarding an airplane?

Although a plane is pressurized it is not pressurized completely to ground or takeoff level. As the plane climbs the air pressure in the cabin is decreased with higher altitude. A typical airliner has the equivalent cabin altitude of 5,000 to 8,000 during cruise. The difference in pressure between the cabin air and that inside the ink cartridge of the pen draws out the ink as the pressure inside the pen is more than that outside.

How do you remove chick tire pressure message?

fill the tires with air to the proper pressure.

How does air pressure cause wind to blow place to another?

If the air pressure lowers in a spot, the surrounding air tries to fill the hole.

Why does the air in an empty can of drink fill the whole can?

When you open a can of drink, the pressure inside the can equalizes with the pressure of the surrounding air. Since both pressures are the same, the air flows from the surrounding environment into the can to fill the empty space. This process continues until the pressures inside and outside the can are balanced, causing the air to fill the entire can.

What is an air fountain?

An air fountain is a device for producing a jet of water by the force of compressed air.

Why does balloon become full when you blow air in it?

Once the air pressure inside the balloon is greater than the air pressure outside the surface it starts to fill. the higher the pressure inside the more the air acts against the inner rubber surface and the balloon gets harder. an empty balloon has the same air pressure inside and outside. Once you push any air in therefore you are starting to raise the air pressure inside.air molocules from you fill it up

Why do a fountain pen starts leaking at higher altitudes?

A fountain pen might leak at higher altitudes due to changes in air pressure. As the altitude increases, the air pressure decreases, causing the ink inside the pen to flow more easily or even leak out. This can result in messy ink spills.

What happens to a balloon when you fill it with air?

When you fill a balloon with air, the air molecules displace the surrounding space inside the balloon, causing the balloon to expand and stretch. The pressure of the air inside the balloon exceeds the pressure outside, creating tension in the balloon material, which keeps it inflated.

Why do fountain pens leak at higher altitudes?

a fountain pen starts leaking at higher altitudes because the difference in air pressure is less than it is on the ground so the ink flows quicker so not exactly a leak rather you not being able to keep up with the flow from the cartridge.

If you have a 200 liter receiver how much presurised air would it take to fill?

Depending on the pressure of air

When you insert a balloon into a bottle and you pump air into the balloon why the balloon will not fill up the bottle?

The air in the balloon will have a difficult time expanding to fill the bottle because the bottle is already filled with air at atmospheric pressure, which creates resistance. The pressure inside the balloon needs to overcome the pressure inside the bottle in order for the balloon to expand and fill the bottle.
