You didn't state what vehicle you have but with most vehicles all the belt driven accessories are driven by pulleys attached to the harmonic balancer so you will be driving without a functioning alternator, Power Steering pump and water pump not to mention you will probably be splashing out motor oil profusely. I give it about 20 to 30 minutes before the engine seizes.
Not far. Drive the back roads to your nearest garage for repairs and stay off the highways.
you can drive with radiator boiling but will do damage to engine if driven far better to let vehicle cool down, refill with coolant to get it to shop and have problem fixed or call a wrecker to tow it
MORE DETAIL The ignition switch turns just enough to release the steering lock, but not as far as the Accessory position. The following link illustrates the problem. http://evansweb.info/articles/2003/01/19/removing-the-ignition-lock-barrel The cylinder does not turn far enough to use this removal method. Drill a small hole at 3 o'clock on the tumbler and drive a small finishing nail in to release the tumbler.
It depends on the engine...if its carbuerated it will last usually long enough to get you 3 or more miles using the power from the battery, fuel injected much less.because newer cars power fuel pump, injectors . also depends if alternator and water pump are using same belt. but usually car would overheat before it ran out of juice. not far. as soon as the battery goes dead, so will your car

get a longer bolt to start it . use this bolt until it is pulled up enuff to start the proper bolt
Slide the balancer on the crankshaft snout as far as you can by hand, then put a harmonic balancer installation tool in and crank it down until it bottoms out. If you can't afford to buy the tool, you can make one with a piece of 1/2-20 threaded rod, a nut, and some big thick washers. Put grease between the washers so they will slip easily while you're tightening the nut.
The Balancer on that 3800 has a special puller that you use to remove it. The only difference is that the bolts for the puller have a much smaller diameter than the regular off the shelf puller. Be careful not to thread the bolts into the threaded holes too far or you could damage the crankshaft position sensor "pick up" fins on the back side of the balancer.
Harmonic balancer serviceThis requires a gear puller. Always note: A harmonic balancer is made of two parts. The two parts are metal and they are made to nest one inside the other. If you look at the balancer you will notice a ring somewhere in the device. This ring is made of isolation material. Never pull the balancer from any point outside the ring. It will likely separate the balancer at this intersection. On my 1996 van I used a two arm puller because the gaps in the "spokes" of the inner part allowed a two arm puller to be centere over the mounting bolt (center of pully). If two arm type does not work then a three arm puller will likely be the one you need. If the blancer does not have spokes then you will need a steering wheel type puller or a puller made specifically for you balancer. I have had to make pullers for older 1990 and earlier engines. Once you have the correct puller you will need to remove the center mount bolt on the balancer. Usually you can then remove the washer that is used on this bolt and then re-install the bolt but do not thread it all the way in. You can now use the head of the bolt as the push point for the center bolt of the puller. install the puller of your choice and slowly and carefully tighten the pully . The balancer should slide slowly off the shaft. To reinstall the balancer. align it with any keyways or other markers on the shaft. Push the balancer on far enough for the installation bolt to be used with the washer. Then use the installation bolt to pull the balancer into position.Good luck. You should be done at this point.
if ur hearing knocking most likely ur rods are getting ready to bust loose as far as the heavy vibration goes could be anything from a loose drive shaft to a harmonic balancer take it to a mechanic indefinitly about the knocking or your gonna throw a rod through ur hood
Yes, it's a kenning. I.e. "The house was far-removed from the rest of town..." However if you're trying to be poetic then you could say "the house was far removed" where far describes removed. If you throw a comma in there ("the house was far, removed from...") then you have another meaning, too. If "far removed" is supposed to describe something, then it has a hyphen. If it's not supposed to be an adjective like red, big or happy then no.
Hey Jodi==This is a very invooved procedure and so get a book on your car at the parts store or MOTORLIT.COM and it will have pictures and everything. GoodluckJoe another answer you could probably get away with doing this without pulling the engine buts its gonna make it alot harder. remove the harmonic balancer pulley and the balancer, as far as i know a special puller is needed for the harmonic balancer. remove the timing chain cover and then youll see the chain. if the chain broke or jump a tooth while running the gears wont be properly aligned. there should be a dot on the upper and lower gear which need to be in line with eachother. you WILL need a manual for this. overall its not that hard to do. Its located behind the waterpump on the front of the block, remove the waterpump and the timing chain cover is directly behind it. Then follow the manual for proper procedures of removing the pully ect. ect.
1994 Ford Tempo GL 2.3L Harmonic Balancer Removal and ReplacementRemoval1. Disconnect the battery ground cable at the battery terminal.2. Disconnect the battery ground strap from the starboard side of the engine near the passenger side strut tower by removing the bottom bolt of the fuel line shield.3. Release tension on the belt tensioner and remove the drive belt.4. Remove the fuel line shield. {If you don't, it will prevent the engine from dropping down far enough later when you try to lower the engine to remove and reinstall the harmonic balancer. It is also nice to have this out before trying to remove the water pump pulley.}5. Remove the belt tensioner. {It will be in the way when attempting to remove the engine side of the starboard engine mount.}6. Mark front side of the water pump pulley and then remove the water pump pulley.7. Check the bearings and free play of the water pump, idler pulley, and belt tensioner pulley. If any of these is worn, replace it now. You have already done the labor!8. Raise and support the vehicle.9. Remove bolt for accumulator-to-compressor A/C line support bracket, then position A/C line toward rear of engine compartment.10. Install a Rotunda Engine Support Bar 014-00750 or equivalent;Or position a bottle jack or equivalent and safety stands under the transmission and engine, use blocks of wood to protect the oil and transmission pans.11. Remove both sides of the starboard engine mount. {Remove the second half of the mount on the engine side as well as the half on the wheel well. This means getting to the upside down 18mm nut at the firewall end of the engine mount. I have had success getting to this from underneath the car with a long extension.}12. Remove right (starboard) side bushing bracket and mounting bracket for stabilizer.13. Remove the vibration harmonic balancer bolt:a. Option A) Remove the 7/8" vibration harmonic balancer bolt through the opening in the wheel well after removing the passenger side {starboard} front tire. Then lower the engine assembly taking care not to crush the fuel fittings that were protected by the fuel line shield.b. Option B) Carefully Lower the engine assembly and then remove the 7/8" vibration harmonic balancer bolt from under the car. IF, and ONLY IF, you do not have adequate clearance under the car to remove the old or install the new vibration harmonic balancer, perform these additional steps:i. Remove front isolator through-bolts and lower retaining nuts.ii. Remove rear isolator through-bolts.iii. Remove right isolator lower retaining nut, then carefully lower drivetrain.14. Remove the vibration harmonic balancer. If necessary, use Bearing Puller T77F-4220-B or equivalent. Your vibration harmonic balancer may come off in up to three pieces, the outer sheet metal, the pulley portion including the long ago deteriorated rubber, and the metal sleeve with the key slot that slips over the end of the crankshaft. Fortunately, my metal sleeve came off with a little gentle prying; yours may require a gear puller. 1994 Ford Tempo GL 2.3L Harmonic Balancer Removal and ReplacementInstallation is NOT just the reverse of the Removal procedure!1. Install the NEW vibration harmonic balancer {Removal #14}. IF, and ONLY IF, you do not have adequate clearance under the car to remove the old or install the new vibration harmonic balancer, perform these additional steps:i. Remove front isolator through-bolts and lower retaining nuts.ii. Remove rear isolator through-bolts.iii. Remove right isolator lower retaining nut, then carefully lower drivetrain.Install the NEW vibration harmonic balancer bolt {Stretch design for one time use}. Torque to ______ nm or _______ ft. lbs. {Removal #13.}Raise the engine assembly {Removal #13}.Replace any optional nuts & bolts you may have removed under 1.i, 1.ii, and 1.iii above.Install the water pump pulley {Removal #6}. {Check the orientation. Is the front you marked pointed away from the engine? Due to the offset, if you put it on backwards it will shred your new drive belt.}Install the belt tensioner {Removal #5}.Release tension on the belt tensioner and install the NEW drive belt {Removal #3}.Reposition the A/C line and reinstall the bolt for the accumulator-to-compressor A/C line support bracket {Removal #9}.Install the engine side of the motor mount {1/2 of Removal #11}.Install the mounting bracket for the stabilizer bar {Removal #12}.Install the retaining bolts-to-stabilizer bar brackets {Removal #12}.Remove supports and lower vehicle {Removal #8}.Install engine mount on wheel well {1/2 of Removal #11}.Remove Rotunda Engine Support Bar 014-00750 or equivalent {Removal #10}.Install fuel line shield. {Bottom bolt secures the battery ground strap. Removal #'s 2 & 4.}Connect the battery ground cable {Removal #1}.
Remove the belt(s). Raise the passenger side front tire, support car with jack stand, and remove front tire. Remove the plastic access panel in the wheel opening. You only have to take out the pop-in fasteners on the front half and then bend the panel so that it is out of the way. Using a 24mm socket or wrench, remove the harmonic balancer bolt. It is tight and an impact wrench would be useful here. You will need a universal type balancer puller, such as the ones Snap-On and others sell which have 4 slots. There are 3 oval openings in the face of the balancer. Under these slots are threaded holes to attach the puller screws. The holes are 1/4 inch fine thread (1/4-28 UNF). You will need three 1/4-28 x 3 inch long screws. The screws in my puller kit weren't long enough so I had to get some at a local hardware store. Attach the puller to the balancer being careful not to run the ends of the screws in too far. About 1/4 inch in is OK. Depending on the size of your puller's center bolt, you may have to put some sort of spacer into the opening for the balancer screw to keep from damaging the crankshaft. I used a small deep-well socket. Run the puller's center screw in slowly until it begins to tighten up against the bottom of the hole or puller, whichever is the case. I used an air impact wrench to tighten the puller and remove the balancer. If this is not available, you may have to hold the balancer with a strap wrench to keep it from turning. Just be careful not to damage the underside of the balancer which has the sensor rings attached to it.
What Kind of Engine are you asking about??? There are a couple different types. Some are tapered fit and others are not. But they all need to go on until they stop "SOLID"....or bottom out against the crankshaft lower timing gear/sprocket. If its not fully installed, you will have trouble sooner or later. Also...your accessory drive belts will not line up correctly. Make sure you have any washers/shims or timing belt guide washers installed first. It should be pretty obvious when its on all the way, especially if your using a impact gun. Good Luck

There typically isn't any timing marks at the distributor. It is possible to slightly advance or retard the ignition (spark) timing by rotating the distrubitor but as far as timing marks go, the only that you will find will be right above the camshaft sprocket and the harmonic balancer (crankshaft pully). possible one more for the oil pump or countershaft.
