Probably only a few minutes. A piercing that new has barely even started healing so the jewelry is the only thing keeping it open. Theres no reason why you should have to take it out. If you knew that you'd have to remove it for work or something so soon after getting it, you shouldn't have gotten it at all. Go to your piercer and see if they can get you some clear glass retainers instead.
