For as long as the repairer wishes... there is no specified time
A OEM converter should bolt in exactly like the original, an after market may have to be cut and welded in.
It could be the oxygen sensors, or some other part of the emission control system (you should have a sticker about this on the underside of the hood). However, because the cruise control light is flashing its more likely that it is some sort of electrical issue.
Depending on the engine. On a 4.6 Liter V8 there are 4 sensors 2 upstream and 2 downstream. The 2 upstream sensor's are located before the catalytic converters one on the left side pipe and one on the right side pipe. The 2 down stream sensors are located behind the catalytic converters one on the left side pipe and. one on the right side pipe. The best way to change these is to have the car on a hoist. I have changed mine using a floor jack and jack stands, it's a little tight but you can change them that way.
That code means that the oxygen sensor downstream of the catalytic converter on bank 2 is detecting that the converter is not working as efficiently as it should be. It could be a bad oxygen sensor, a bad catalytic converter or and exhaust leak.
bosch 15716 and bosch 15718 are the same exact sensor, the difference is the length of the wiring the 15718 has a longer wire. Both sensors would go before the catalytic converter. 15717 goes after.
There should be 1.
There should only be one.
According to Meineke, they are asking $1,300 to replace the two converters.
Should be only one.
should have 2. just look under the car
I have a 97 Impreza, and it should have 3 catalytic converters, but I took one off, and never put it back on, and my car runs just fine, so my answer is don't worry about it.
Yes, It is directionally specific. It should be fitted in the right direction or it will perform its function perfectly.
A flashing check engine light indicates that you have problem that will damage the catalytic converter. You should have the check engine light checked very quick/tomorrow,if not sooner. converters cost over $800.00. Only if it was sold in California. In 1974 all California cars had catalytic converters. In 1975, the rest of the country followed suit. If you've got the build sheet, you should be able to easily determine which dealership sold the car new and then you'll know if it should have a cat.
As long as you keep the catalytic converters and other factory emissions controls, there should not be a problem. If your vehicle is older than what Virgina requires to be emissions tested, you may be able to remove the Catalytic Converter and other factory control equipment.
It could be your catalytic converter... yes, catalytic converters clog on these often. its fairly easy to unbolt it from the exhaust manifold. if you take it off, shine a flashlight up from the bottom, you should be able to see light from the top.
There are 4 sensors on the 94 Firebird T/A, 2 in front, 2 in rear, these are located on the exhaust system, 2 before the catalytic converters and 2 after the converters. They look almost like spark plugs and have a wire going to them. You should be able to identify them no problem. Hope this helps!
