As in most diffs....you check the gear oil by opening a large plug screw, located on the side of the diff, with a 3/8 , or a 1/2 inch ratchet driver. The gear oil should just start to spill a little bit out of the hole after you take out the plug. If it does not spill ANY oil.....THEN you are low. Just use your finger , stick it downward in the hole, and you will feel the oil level. (seriously)
