Most people would say that Leonardo da vinci looked at machines way different from others. Only because it took him so long to either draw a picture of Mona Lisa that most machines reminded him of drawings. Many people question whether or not he was a artist or if the way he looks at things are from the perspective of drawings.

In the book 1434 he describes that many of the inventions attributed to Leonardo were found in Chinese books given to the Venetians and studied, redrawn, and improved by him and others. If his theory is true and as a studier of Leo and also of Chinese history he makes a good case), then Leo may not have been so great an inventor as much as a student and adapter. There is no doubt when you look at the pictures by him and his contemporaries, that his drawings bring the machines to life and in a way that makes them look wholly European, but Menzies shows the Chinese illustrations that preceded them.
