Unfortunately, once you have rheumatic Heart disease, the damage has been done and there is no cure.

Fortunately, Rheumatic heart disease is pretty uncommon in recent years.

If you are having effects from the damage done to your heart valves, such as heart failure or anemia from destruction of red blood cells, you may need to have a valve replacement.

Rheumatic heart disease is a, fortunately rare in developed countries, complication of strep infection (as in strep throats).

The original strep infections is contagious but thge rheumatic heart disease occurs long after that is over and so is generally not contagious.
