LHC - Large Hadron Collider (Hadron is a type of particle of which the protons and neutrons that make up atomic nuclei are examples.)
CERN is an organisational headquaters of scientists, based in Switzerland, which houses a large hadron collider (the LHC). By smashing particles together at great speed, it's hoped that the LHC will be able to recreate the conditions present at the beginning of the universe (the big bang). The scientists are examining the microscopic collisions, which are created by shooting atoms around the huge tunnels of the LHC. Antimatter was discovered by Paul Dirac in 1928.
Tim Berners-Lee had his first contact with CERN 1980, when he acted there as advisory engineer from June to December. Later he worked as Director of a company for Computer Systems, but returned to CERN 1984.1989 he invented the World Wide Web.1994 Tim Berners-Lee founded the World Wider Web Consortium. He is owner of a professorship at the "Laboratory for Computer Science" of the MIT since 1999

CERN is situated in Meyrin, which is close to Geneva.Officially the whole complexe, including the Large Hadron Collider and other accelerator belong to Switzerland, but geographically CERN is located at the border of France and Switzerland (not the Franco-German border;))
CERN is located in Switzerland near Geneva. Coordinates: 46° 14′ 3″ N, 6° 3′ 10″ E.
CERN in Geneva
CERN, the Nuclear Research facility, is located in Meyrin a small town just on the edge of the Geneva, Switzerland city limits. Arrival by train or air, you can find the CERN headquarters within 15 minutes. There are many places to stay around the airport and train station after a tour of the site. CERN was recently mentioned in the Dan Brown novel, Angels and Demons. Check tourism sites for Geneva or the CERN site for information on directions and tours.
The main building actually is situated in Meyrin/Geneva, but some of the accelerators and underground experiments are in France, but still belong to Switzerland

The world wide web was invented at CERN in Geneva, which is in Switzerland. Computers were not invented in Switzerland.
Center for European Nuclear Research (CERN) in Switzerland
CERN is an acronym for Conseil Européen pour laRecherche Nucléaire, the European center for Nuclear Research in Geneva/Switzerland, best-known for the world's biggest particle accelerator the LHC.There's no other meaning for "cern"
Twelve representatives of each founding country signed the charter of CERN at the 29th of July 1953 in Paris. Beforehand CERN existed only as an idea, a provisional Organisation with a provisional Council, composed by eleven European governments. The new Council determined Geneva/Switzerland as the center of CERN. 1955 was the laying of the first stone.
