No, it's not hard. There's a spring-loaded tensioner pully on the top of the engine. To make the job easier, get the largest socket wrench you can find or get some help. If your hand or the wrench slips, it shouldn't do any damage but it will scare you. Pull back on the tensioner with the socket wrench, the belt will loosen.
