sure, it is called bace coat/clear coat system and they have been doing it since 1986 ish. Spray your bace till covered let it dry tack cloth the finish then spray your clear, follow directions on can

I think the question is whether or not to mix the base coat WITH the clear before applying. It will defeat the purpose of the clear coat as a UV protectant to the base coat. You can do it but I certainly would not recommend it.

What is urethane paint?

Urethane Paint is a strong and durable top coat finish which dries to a sturdy gloss finish. It is a 2 pack finish and is often used on boats and other leisure crafts or industrial applications. Most restrain from using it on automotive applications as it allows for no depth in your finished coat. By using a base-coat and top-coating with a 2 pack clear you obtain that extra depth which is usually desired. However if you wanted to go cheaper and did not care about that look than there is no problem is using urethane 2 packs in cars. Hopefully that helps

How long between base coat and clear coats?

The recommended time between applying a base coat and a clear coat typically ranges from 30 minutes to 24 hours, depending on the specific paint system and environmental conditions. It's important to follow the manufacturer's guidelines, as factors like temperature and humidity can affect drying times. Generally, if you wait too long, you may need to scuff the base coat to ensure proper adhesion of the clear coat. Always ensure the base coat is fully cured before applying the clear coat for the best results.

How long do you wait to spray clear over the base coat?

You should typically wait about 20 to 30 minutes after applying the base coat before spraying clear coat, but this can vary depending on the specific paint products being used and the environmental conditions. Always refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for the ideal waiting time. Ensure the base coat is dry to the touch but not fully cured, as this allows for better adhesion of the clear coat.

Should you be aware of scratches before spraying clearcoat on a car?

If there are scratches on the surface before you clear coat, the clear will not come out smooth. If you are spraying new clear coat over an old clear coat, the entire surface must be wet sanded with at least a 600 grit wet/dry paper so the surface is rough enough to accept the clear. If you are spraying new clear over an new base coat, the same techinque for prepping the surface will be necessary if the base coat has dried.
