The starter solenoid or relay switch needs to be replaced. Definitely not true, start out with something a little more simple, clean your battery terminals and make sure they are tight, that is usually when you will hear clicking.

I wanted to post the answer this Question some where, it took me weeks to find my problem.

I have a 2002 Dodge ram 1500 4.7l, After changing my battery from sitting for 2 years, my truck ran fine a few times, then 1 day it would not start and the fuel, battery, temp, and oil pressure light would move like they r supposed to when you turn the key. Also my gas light, engine light and the ABS and Brake light would come on. I checked to see if the CPU had any codes stored but my On Board Diagnostics didn't work, at all (turn key on and off 3 times with in 5 sec). After searching and test grounds and other things I spent countless hours looking on line for a solution only to find hundreds with the same problem but no solution. I did find some useful info on how to test the lines going into the PCM (trucks computer). Ill try and post some pics some where maybe you tube. Any how to make a long story short, it wasn't a bad ground, fried CPU, or a bad starter, etc. One of the wire supplying power to the ignition control for the CPU had corroded off under the fuse/relay box. I took it off cleaned it and when i was using the air gun to remove dirt i seen 1 wire was loose, a quick solder job and cleaning and i was up and running. So it took 3 weeks to find a problem that only took 20 mins to fix. I hope this helps others, I almost bought a new wiring harness and CPU. Ill post images and directions on you tube. I really hope this saves some 1 like me time and money and a bunch of hair.

Hold the gas pedal in and slowly let it out, holding it if it wants to die.

An engine needs fuel, air, and fire. You are missing one. Causes include out of gas, no fuel pressure, no spark, computer or sensor issue, and internal engine failure.

A single click is usually a bad starter. A series of fast clicks is usually a weak battery.
