When you try to start your car why would the positive battery post spark and nothing happen?

The battery terminal is loose at the positive post, or the cable wires are loose at the positive terminal. Remove the terminal, clean everything properly and then reassemble and tighten securely, and it will no longer spark. Your vehicle should start. A light spritz of WD-40 or the like will deter corrosion. It's cheaper than the little anti-corrosion terminal pads they sell at the auto parts stores, but feel free to grab a pair of them when you have a moment. Then when time permits, pull your terminals (positive gets pulled first and put back on last), clean them, and put on the pads before reassembly.

94 dodge caravan won't start in wet weather the battery and alternator were checked and are not the problem now the only way to start it is to jump it help?

clean the battery terminals - strong wire brush or a little baking soda & water.

What is the proper placement of the wires on the starter solenoid of a 1983 Ford Thunderbird?

Looking at the solenoid from the front, and working towards the left, the right terminal will have one wire that goes down to the starter. The little push-on wire (usually red) will be the one that goes next. There may be another little push on, or a couple of wires with terminals- they all get attached to the next small terminal. The last terminal on the left of the solenoid is where the battery wire, and any other accessory wires go.

What is the little box called that the positive and negative wires attach to coming from the battery of a 2003 Yamaha raptor 660?

should be your starter selonoid...they are a common problem on raptors.

Which wires go where on a 99 Saturn starter?

Depending on the vehichle, you may only have one wire going to the starter, which would be the positive wire from the battery. In addition to this wire, many vehicles have a wire or pair of wires going to the solenoid housing on the starter. The positive wire is a very thick, heavy wire, which usually will have a loop terminal at the end, which fits over a post on the starter, which has a nut that threads down to secure the positive wire.Often wire lengths will give you a hint as to where they should be connected, and wires frequently are bent to fit the connections. Be careful if you are guessing on where the solenoid wires connect, because a mistake could fry the solenoid. In AdditionMany vehicles may have an additional, fairly heavy wire that runs to the same post as the battery. This wire makes its way to the alternator and is the location of the charging system fuseable link.

How to change the battery on a Honda Rebel?

Remove right cover (just below the seat) by removing the single screw on the lower right of the cover and popping it off. Disconnect the negative (on the left) terminal first, then the positive with a Phillips screwdriver. Watch for the loose little nuts held within the battery terminals if your replacement battery doesn't have them. Remove the rubber battery strap - probably easiest by unstrapping from the left. Install replacement by doing these instructions backwards. Remember to connect positive terminal first.

How does electricity flow around a series circuit?

Imagine a series circuit consisting of a battery, a wire from its negative terminal to a lamp, and another wire from its positive terminal to the lamp. The electricity would flow from the battery's negative terminal to the lamp and then back to the positive terminal of the battery: it's always negative to positive. Scientists were not aware of this until long after electricity discovered. They thought electricity flows from positive to negative and this was accepted for a long time. When someone asks you to use conventional current, it means assume the current flows from positive to negative, which is the opposite of what happens in reality. The negative terminal (the technical name for this is cathode) of an electrical energy supply, such as a battery, releases electrons with energy in them. These electrons drift to the appliance (i.e. the lamp in this case). The lamp then uses the energy in the electrons to produce light and heat before letting the electrons out on the other side. These electrons have little or no energy but they would drift back to the battery to regain energy and the cycle continues until the battery is depleted of energy. The electrons leave the lamp at the speed at which they enter the lamp.

How do you replace the battery on a 2001 Focus?

First disconnect the ground terminal(black one or (-))by unscrewing the little nuts on the terminal. Repeat on the red or (+) terminal. You may need to lift the terminal off using a screwdriver. They do come off. Next loosen and remove the strap holding the battery down. Remove old battery.

How to replace battery cables for 1998 Nissan Frontier?

The negative( black wire universal symbol for it is -) cable is a single wire connected to the frame on the passenger side. Step 1. Remove the negative terminal ( marked " - " on the battery), then remove the positive ( marked " + " on battery) Now that the battery has been disconnected , remove the two small 10mm bolts on the battery stay/holder. Remove battery holder, then remove the battery, it will give you more room to work with. Step 2. Follow the negative wire to where its grounded to the frame remove bolt, and clips that hold it in place. Once you have the wire free, measure old wire, cut or have wire cut at auto parts store, replace terminals and reinstall The positive cable (Red wire or wires the universal symbol for it is + ) is a little trickier than the negative. You have two wires going into the terminal that is bolted to the battery post. The first wire ( heavy gauge) goes to the positive side of the starter. The smaller of the two wires goes to the positive side of the alternator. This wire has a red cap covering the post/terminal on the alternator. Check with an automotive parts store for the proper gauge wiring that should be used. 1998-2004 Nissan Frontiers have proprietary battery terminals that are not easy to change or to convert to a standard battery terminal. You will have to remove the plastic casing covering the positive & negative wires. You will notice that once the factory terminal is removed, you will see two flat copper plates, they are crimped to the two positive wires. You will have to cut and strip the wire, using help from the local auto parts store find the appropriate terminal. Reinstall, reconnect the battery.

How do you jump start a BMW Z4?

Check your owner's manual. At the back of the engine compartment there is a little plastic "box" with a "+" on it....open the box and the nut inside is your positive terminal. On the driver's side, about 1/2 way back near the round suspension rubber is a seemingly useless bolt...this is your negative terminal. The battery is in the trunk.

What wire is positive when changing the speakers in a 2002 Saturn Vue?

Just use an old small battery lying around. With 2 wires, connect to speaker terminals. Now TOUCH Breify the other ends of the wires to that little battery. But watch the speaker. If you have hot on hot the speaker cone will push outward. If you have hot wire on negative speaker terminal the speaker cone will want to suck in. Sometimes the speaker will have one big terminal and a small terminal. The larger terminal is the hot side of the speaker.

Why does my headlight globe keep blowing and why is there very little spark on my Honda XR200 when it has a brand new CDI unit and i have checked all the wiring with a multimeter?

You did check the terminal voltage at the light and the voltage across the battery when revving the engine and found it to be correct, I hope. You should also check for tracking between the output terminal of the HT coil and it's positive terminal. After that, its trying to find the bad earth I'm afraid.

Why positive terminal of battery is larger than negative terminal?

As a battery terminal seller, I measured all the battery terminal ends, it is different.the size of positive and negative is a little different about 0. 1–0.3cm. maybe it does not want you to use it to the wrong battery post.so more details, you can check the website Cohomer dot com.the battery capacity is different, so the battery terminal is different. considering the electric current, and bear the corrosion and other things. So they aren’t usually common in size. The negative pillar is slightly smaller than the positive one.Automotive batteries typically have one of three types of terminals. In recent years, the most common design was the SAE Post, consisting of two lead posts in the shape of truncated cones, positioned on the top of the battery, with slightly different diameters to ensure correct electrical polarity. The "JIS" type is similar to the SAE but smaller, once again positive is larger than negative but both are smaller than their SAE counterparts. Most older Japanese cars were fitted with JIS terminals.General Motors, and other automobile manufacturers, have also begun using side-post battery terminals, which consist of two recessed female 3/8" threads (SAE 3/8-16) into which bolts or various battery terminal adapters are to be attached. These side posts are of the same size and do not prevent incorrect polarity connections.L terminals consist of an L-shaped post with a bolt hole through the vertical side. These are used on some European cars, motorcycles, lawn and garden devices, snowmobiles, and other light-duty vehicles. Some battery sizes are available with terminals in two different configurations: 1) positive on the left and negative on right, 2) negative on the left, and positive on right. Purchasing the wrong configuration may prevent battery cables from reaching the battery terminals.

How to Install a New Car Battery?

Install a New Car BatteryInstalling a battery for your car is a very easy task that can be done with a few simple tools. Anybody with a little mechanical knowledge can perform the task.Battery Placement and SecurityBegin by placing your battery carefully onto the battery platform. Make sure the platform is clean of debris so that the battery sits level. Then take the battery bracket, which is used to hold the battery in place, and tighten it down using a socket wrench. Now that the battery is securely held in place, be sure to check that you have everything else in place before connecting the battery.Connecting The BatteryBefore connecting the battery, it's a good idea to place a protective rubber casing over the connection so that it sits between the battery cable and the battery casing. This will prevent any corrosion of the casing to occur. Start with the positive battery cable. Place it over the terminal connection until it is all the way down and the terminal is sticking out above the terminal. Tighten the cable securely to the terminal with a wrench. Repeat the same procedure with the negative battery cable and you will be good to go.

1992 Cadillac put new battery in and still nothing?

Check for damaged battery cables. It is very common for acid leaking from the battery to burn through the positive cable on a Cadillac. If you see any green where the copper should be, replace the cable. Also, do you have constant power at the starter at the 'big wire' terminal of the starter and power at the 'little wire' connection of the starter while turning the key?
