the land around us is seldom flat. there are nearly always difference in height and differences in slope. sometimes slopes may be gentle and at other times steep. there may be hills, mountains and valleys or areas that are quite level. the wold relief is used by geographers to describe the shape of the land.
The answer is:
1) contour lines
2) shading
3) spot heights

Topographic Map
Length is the horizontal measurement and the vertical one is height. If there are 2 horizontal ones then length is the longer one, and the other one is breadth, or width.
Everyone who wants to get from one place to another and feels a map is the best way to find the route to travel. GPS have their place, but, a paper map is often the better way to find a route to travel. GPS is limited, and does have limitations. GPS and papers maps together is sometimes the better way to plot a direction. Not everyone has a GPS device.
By looking at it.
Topographic Map
A way of showing the sphere on the earth on the flat surface of a map.
Height is shown on a map by boxes, each having a number in them, 1,2,3 and so on. they normally measure in miles, which is the easy way for starters.
on a flat map
A circle. However, a way of showing a sperical object on a flat surface, such as a map of the world, is called a projection. The most widely used example is the "Mercator Projection", the familiar classroom World map, although there are many others.
Contour maps have lines along points at the same height or elevation. The contours are usually drawn at regular intervals, such as every 10 or 50m of height change.Where contour lines are very close on a map, this shows that the height is changing a great deal over a short horizontal distance, and therefore the gradient is steep.Areas of shallow gradient will have contour lines that are a long way apart, showing that points that are a set distance apart in height are a large distance apart horizontally.
Topographic Map
A means of showing a curved surfaces o a flat map is called a projection. Each type of projection distorts the appearance of Earth's features in a different way. For example, some projections distort distance, while others distort directions between two points.
One way of working out analogies is to use a bridge map which is a type of thinking map. A bridge map is used for illustrating analogies and identifying similarities between relationships.
