If all you had was barium, then the kidneys have nothing to do with it. Barium is for visualizing the GI tract (stomach/small bowel/large bowel.)
Lyme disease? Fibromyalgia?
There are no generally contraindicated medications after a contrast enhanced Ct Scan.
There are minimal risks involved with getting a CT scan. Your doctor should check your kidney function to be sure your kidneys can handle getting dye. This may be done at your doctors office or at the place that does the CT. The newer dyes used now are lower risk of any allergic reaction and are much easier on your kidneys to process. We check everyone over 16 years old before giving any dye. As always discuss with your doctor if there is any reason not to get the dye.
To check for any number of kidney related problems. Some common things seen on a CT scan of the kidneys: * Kidney stone(s) * Hydronephrosis (Enlargement of the kidney due to a blockage usually) * Renal Cysts
One should wear a hospital gown since it depends on the part of the body to be scanned. You should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing for a cat scan.
scanning with barium is knownas barium cat scan
Yes, it will be white for couple of days until all barium is not out of your body
No, you should not add chocolate syrup or any other substance to barium sulfate suspension for an abdomen scan. Barium sulfate is specifically formulated for medical imaging, and adding anything else could interfere with the imaging process, compromise the effectiveness of the contrast, or pose risks to the patient. Always follow medical guidelines and consult with a healthcare professional for preparation instructions.
Yes. In fact, barium is often put into the body before regular x-rays to outlinet the gut (in the case of barium meal, barium follow-through and barium swallow).
You shouldn't be taking a Barium sulfate suspension unless you're about to have a medical scan. It you're taking this regularly, you need to speak to your doctor. If you are only taking it once (like is normally done before a scan), and you are concerned, you can save up breast milk to use the day after, and then should be able to breast feed again after it has cleared your system without concern. In either case, you should talk to your doctor.
"Renal" refers to the kidneys.
i assume you mean radionucleid uptake scan? this is a scan performed with radioisotopes to determine areas of under activity and can be used in many parts of the body including the thyroid kidneys and liver.
the kidney nuclear medicine scan is unique in that it reveals how the kidneys are functioning. This is valuable information in helping a doctor make a diagnosis.
Yes, you can eat or drink before taking barium sulfate suspension for an abdominal CT scan, but it is generally recommended to avoid food and drink for at least 4 to 6 hours before the procedure. This helps ensure clearer images and minimizes the risk of complications. However, you should follow the specific instructions provided by your healthcare provider, as guidelines may vary.

should you eat before having a ct scan of the chest and abdomen
No it will not. My husband had to take 1/2 the barium at night the night previous to CT scan, and then the rest the morning of the test. He also had blood work. We had appointments in 2 different clinics. We showed up to blood work and asked if it was possible to do tests, they said ok. After that we went for CT scan. When we got results, everything was OK, barium did not affect the blood work. This was on 4/25/2014. Greetings from Sunny San Antonio, TX
