You should the head gasket. If you go to Autozone, they have a tool that can check for exhaust gas in the coolant which may tell you if you have blown head gasket. Also, check your oil to see if it is milky or if you are blowing white smoke from the exhaust pipes. HTH
Drain the water from your radiator. Remove the radiator hose, from the thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts. Replace the thermostat housing gasket and reverse the process to install the new thermostat.
Drain the water from the cooling system. Remove the radiator hose from the thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new thermostat.
1. overheating 2. temperature of engine not coming up in winter 3. poor engine performance 4. low gas milage
any radiator fixit that you buy in a store is a temporary fix usually makes the problem worse you can take radiator to a radiator shop where they can tell you if it is repairable or u need a new one now here is also a fix that will work but try not to laugh go into your kitchen and get the ground black pepper . that's right the stuff you put on your food pour this into radiator top off radiator and run engine this will stop leaks without gooing up anything else i know you are laughing but it does work when time comes to change coolant, this will just run out when u dump the old coolant
follow the owners manual as to when it is time to change the coolant. Get a manual from MOTORLIT.COM
check coolant check for leaks.......radiator cap must be free of rust and tight....plugged radiator, heater core. change the thermostat its probably stuck shut
You need only to drain off a couple quarts of coolant to change the thermostat.
it shouldn't matter if the hose is soft. as long as the hose allows coolant to flow freely, your fine. but, if your car is overheating, u might want to change the thermostat.
Your radiator might have a small pinhole in it, causing it to not build up pressure.
change th radiator it must be blocked feel th radiator shoud be evenly hot.
If the engine is overheating, the thermostat is stuck closed. If the heater is not putting out enough hot air the thermostat is stuck open. Change the thermostat as a normal part of maintenance when changing coolant.
When changing the thermostat on a Nissan 300zx first drain the coolant from the engine. Then find the lower coolant hose on the radiator. Trace the hose to the thermostat housing. Remove the housing to uncover the thermostat and replace the unit with a new thermostat.
You could have a bad water pump causing no coolant flow, inoperable radiator fans, a coolant leak,............
One can change the thermostat on a Chevy car by draining the coolant and disconnecting the upper radiator hose. The thermostat housing is then unbolted, the old thermostat removed, and a new unit placed in the housing.
generally, water pumps leak when defective but still pump water. could be thermostat, plugged radiator, loose belt, low coolant answer if pump is not leaking, get engine to running temp and remove radiator cap look in to see if water is circulating if water is circulating it is not the pump i would change thrmostat then check radiator cap
Not necessary to drain all coolant, just enough to be able to remove radiator hose from thermostat housing and prevent much leakage.
Find and disconnect the upper radiator hose. This will be a hose going from the top of the radiator to the top of the engine block somewhere. The upper radiator hose attaches to the thermostat housing, which is usually secured by 2 or 4 bolts. The thermostat is inside and you will probably need a pick to get it out. Having said that, your thermostat probably isn't the problem if you are overheating. GM motors have really bad intake gasket design, which can cause your car to leak coolant, which will in turn cause it to overheat.
