Drain the water from the cooling system. Remove the radiator hose from the thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new thermostat.
With very few exceptions, the thermostat in all vehicles is at the motor where the top radiator hose attaches to the motor. The hose attaches to the thermostat housing. Usually held on with 2 bolts.

the glow plugs are located inside the the valve covers on the engine' the wire harness goes thru the cover gaskets.so this is a major job.if you break a gasket while removing, they cost about $70 , each to replace. you also need special tools to remove glow plugs. it is much easier and safer to take the truck to a reputable diesel mechanic.
it sounds like it might be the cam sensor in the injection pump.
Anytime a diesel engine will not run the fuel delivery system is in question. Fuel pumps, fuel filters, clogged injectors, etc. I have owned severall diesel trucks and a problem lilke this always boils down to something in the fuel system, in my experience. Good luck.
