Alloy iswhat we call a mix of metals.

Alloys tend to be more useful than the pure, single metal. Mix iron with some nickel and chrome, and you get a metal that won't rust. Mix aluminium with a hint of copper and it gets stronger etc.

In fact,various alloys are far more common than the pure substances.

When people say alloy wheels they are usually talking about something that's either mostly aluminium ormostly magnesium with a dash of other metals blended in.

But strictly speaking, even the most basic stock steel rim is also an alloy. An iron-based one this time.

Wheels can be made of what ever material that seems suitable for the task, all-metal wheels, all-rubber wheels, wooden wheels, plastic wheels, ceramic wheels etc etc.

Or built-up wheels, with a rim in one material and a tire in another. Or even a hub in one material, spokes in another and tires in a 3rd.
