As far as I know they can not be cleaned. Must be replaced.
u can plow with anything, but a ranger is a light truck. this means it will not have the traction to dig into the snow(4wd is the way to go ) . also the trans. is not built for the added load of plowing. I have a 1997 ranger xlt 4 wheel drive that I've used for 4 years to plow and it works fine.

If the automatic 4x4 works but the front hubs do not engage in a 1994 Ranger, there is no 4 wheel drive. The transaxle for the 4 wheel drive has to be repaired.
