- arteries carry high pressure blood away from the heart, veins carry low pressure blood back to the heart
- arteries are more elastic than veins in order to handle the pulses of high pressure
- major veins (like in the legs) contain antibackflow valves (when these fail blood pools in the veins and you get varicose veins)
- etc.
