The advantage to studio Photography is control of your environment. You control the lighting, the props & the background. There will be no too dark shadows, squinting from sunlight, errant breezes messing hair styles or bugs. It will not be too hot or too cold or raining & your client can change clothes more easily. It is also easier to corral young children.
The disadvantages to studio photography are space & location. Large or active groups can be difficult to set up in a limited space. Pets can be intimidated or not housebroken. Sometimes clients have a specific location or idea that cannot be achieved in the studio.
The advantage to outdoor photography is location. Your studio can be almost anywhere. It is more convenient for large groups. You can move & pose swiftly which is good for families with active children. Props such as cars, motor cycles, large pets or livestock can be worked with better outdoors.
The disadvantage to outdoor photography is lack of control of your environment. Rain, snow, too many clouds, sun too bright, too windy...all can cause problems with an outdoor shoot. You have to anticipate your needs & carry all your equipment with you. You have to work quickly due to constantly changing conditions such as weather, angle of the sun or other people at the location who can get in the way.
I think around 1850-1855 photography was fairly widespread and commonly accepted. The oldest family pictures I have are from 1850-1852 and were taken in southern Indiana in an outdoor studio. They are beautiful in their simplicity.

Photography is a form of art. It can be used to show facts, as seen in press photography. It can be used therapeutically, as a form of expression. However, photography is most commonly used to keep fond memories of great times. A picture captures a thousand words.
Environmental portraiture is my favorite genre of photography. I enjoy photographing people in their homes, places of employment, and outdoor environments because context enhances personality. These pictures use composition, lighting, and subtle facial expressions to tell stories. Each portrait is made vivid, relatable, and emotionally complex by revealing authenticity and the relationship between the subject and the surroundings.

The best sun filters for cameras to enhance outdoor photography are polarizing filters and neutral density filters. Polarizing filters reduce glare and reflections, while neutral density filters help control exposure in bright sunlight. Both filters can improve the quality of outdoor photos by enhancing colors and reducing overexposure.
