The dangers of tie dying include dying your skin (not permanently staining other clothes in the washing machine, and your shirt no turning out the way it should. There's really no real danger in tie dying. If you forget to wear the gloves, just try a Mr. Clean magic eraser, and that should do the trick if you rub it on your hands. It doesn't completely get rid of it, but if you have it on your arms it will completely come off with it. I know from personal experience... i tried soap, nail polish remover, 409, Oxi clean, magic erasers, and comet, but erasers worked the best.
Here are the real dangers!
Oh sure, it starts off innocent enough...
Sure, first a tie dye t-shirt. Then maybe a couple of "pulls" off a "rainbow tube sock."
And sure, it might be fun. Listen to some rock and roll records, maybe even wear a little India skirt. 'Cause, hey, it's cool, right?
But then it starts getting heavy, man. Too heavy.
Before you know it, you're barefoot and your hair's down to your ass and you're smellin' like the backseat of the
Doobie Brothers' tour bus, man.
You pull yourself out of the mud you've been rolling around in, only to realize that you've just traded your shirt for a
grilled cheese and a hand-written poem by someone named Starchild.
And that's when you know you're not coming down, man! That's when the freakout begins. I mean psychedelic
pandemonium, man! Spiders, man!
And oh! Then you're too far gone! Three freakin' sheets to the wind, man!
Next you find yourself travellin' around in a VW bus with a one-eyed dog, just driftin' town to town, trading love beads for STDs.
And that's just no way to live. Why do you think they call it DIE, man?
So, take my-y'know-advice, man. Stay away from that tie dye.

For a colorfast tie dye a fiber reactive dye is needed such as Procion Dye from the Dharma Trading Company. Rit dye can be used but is not fiber reactive and not colorfast and the tie dye will fade colors after each wash.
No. I've had a couple of tie-dye shirts for several years, and they never faded after not ironing them (I never ironed them, and I used cheap tie-dye spray from my local craft store.)
