a 2002 Alero could have several problems causing the overheating. Thermostat, water pump, or clogged radiator issues are the most common causes of overheating.
after filling with fuel cycle the ignition several times. when you turn the key on the fuel pump only runs for a few seconds then shuts off that's why its neccisary to cycle it a few times
Check the throttle position sensor (TPS)
It is on the evaporator case and is held in with 2 screws.
you will find any oil plug on any engine on the very bottom of the engine on the oil sump, most vehicles now are fitted with plastic mud covers under the cars this would mean they will probably have to be taken off to find sump plug.HAPPY OIL CHANGE
Make sure the pump keeps running when you start the engine. The pump will shut off after a few seconds if you just turn on the key then don't start the engine. That's normal. But the computer is designed to detect that the engine is running and if so, keep the fuel pump running as well. If the computer somehow isn't detecting that the engine is running, you probably have a faulty sensor, connector or wire. Make certain that you check the wire! Sometimes the wire can be damaged and the fuel pump will not run. Good luck.
