Colorado

Colorado has many physical features. Probably the most notable one is the Rocky Mountains. They span north and south up the middle of the state. There are many 14,000 foot peaks in the state of Colorado; famous ones include Pikes Peak and Longs Peak. Colorado is also has an arid climate and in the southwest part of the state it is very hot and dry in the summers with cactus growth and tumbleweeds. Colorado also has many rivers and streams that start in the mountains and flow downward.

Colorado Rocky Mountains

The Rocky Mountain chain runs north and south from central New Mexico into Canada, with the Central Rockies spanning Colorado, Utah, northern Arizona, New Mexico and southern Wyoming. Approximately 265,000 acres of the mountains received formal recognition as a natural preserve under the protection of the U.S. National Parks program in 1915. Estes Park, Alpine, Lily Lake, Fall River and Beaver Meadows, Colorado, feature main entrances for Rocky Mountain National Park.
