Earth has seasons because its axis is tilted. Earth's axis is always pointed in the same direction, so different parts of Earth get the Sun's direct rays throughout the year.

The spin of the earth on it's axis, is a day.
You will notice that the spin does not exactly match the time it takes for the earth to complete a years journey around the sun.
This is why we have to have an extra day, in a leap year, to catch up the quarter turns that we missed out in previous years.

When the earth is tilting towards the sun it's a warmer season like spring or summer. When it's tilted away its winter. 1 month happens when the moon rotates around the earth once.
