Here in the US there are several excellent schools to attend for Graphic Design. In California two of the best are CalArts and the California College of the Arts. In New York there's Parsons New School for Design and the Pratt Institute. Maryland is home to the Maryland Institute College of Art and Rhode Island has the wonderful Rhode Island School of Design. There are, of course, more scattered throughout the country, but namely you want to go where the industry is: East or West Coast.

graphic design
A graphic designer would have to go back to school.Graphic designers are only trained in certain fields. They are not trained in using the design software that the automotive and aircraft industries require for designing.Graphic designers tend to be highly knowledgable in Photoshop, Illustrator, and Bridge programs.Usually AutoCad and Solidworks are the types of programs these fields are looking for.A graphic designer wanting to become an automotive or aircraft designer should look into an Industrial Design course. They already obtain the basic design and art aspects. They need to learn the mechanical aspects such as basic physics, measuring and dimension, etc.I would say yes. With the proper education upgrade a graphic designer obtains the creative qualities to become an Industrial Designer. All they need is the passion.
