Earhart's last transmission to the nearby Itasca came at 8:43 am on July 2, 1937. They were running on line 157 337 north to south. The Itasca could receive her transmission but she didn't receive theirs in return. Howland Island received one last transmission from Earhart and then nothing. She was declared dead on Jan. 5, 1939.

Did Amelia Earhart have trouble with the plane?

Yes, in her final flight she had serious radio problems.

Was Amelia Earharts plane sabotaged?

If it was, it was sabotaged by Earhart herself. She had some secondary radio equipment as original equipment on the plane that it is believed she either had removed or removed herself as "extra weight - not necessary". That radio unit could have been used to hone in on her position more clearly, and she could have also have used it to lock onto the Itasca, which she could not see, though it was in her immediate area.

What date was Amelia Earhart declared legally dead?

The last radio transmission from Amelia Earhart was at 8:45am on 3rd July 1937 at an abandoned island; the search was called off on 19th July when the US Navy pronounced her 'lost at sea'. ("Great Unsolved Mysteries" John Canning 1984 p.165, 168)

When did Amelia Earhart end her journey?

She was supposed to land on Howland Island in the South Pacific on July 2, 1937, in the early morning. She had taken off from Lae, New Guinea, which was about 2500 miles to the West. The flight was supposed to last about 18 hours or so. She never landed at Howland and her plane was never seen by any of the Navy Personnel on the ship Itasca that was waiting to help with refueling. Radio contact was a problem during her flight. There was a lot of confusion about which radio frequencies she would be transmitting and listening on, and the times she would be transmitting. It seemed that she was not able to hear most of the radio signals from Itasca, although they could hear her. Radar was not in use at the time, and Earhart was depending being able to use a radio direction finder to home in on signals from Itasca, but according to what she said in her radio transmissions to Itasca, she was not able to use her direction finder. Fred Noonan was on the flight as her navigator, and he was one of the best in world. However, Howland Island is a very small island, and without GPS and radar, and with Earhart not being able to use her direction finder (it apparently was not working correctly), the job of finding a very small island after flying 2500 miles over open water was very difficult. The two most likely scenarios are that she ran out fuel and crashed into the ocean, or that she landed on Gardner Island, which is southeast of Howland, and died there of starvation, lack of water and/or exposure.

What was the time Amelia Earhart's last radio transmission?

Amelia Earhart's last radio transmission was at 8:42 am, local time. From her transmission strength, she was within 100 miles of Howland Island, her goal. How Nazis involved in Amelia Earhart's disappearance?

Your best source of info about Earhart is a group called TIGHAR, which is, I think, at tighar.org . I don't think Nazis had anything to do with it. She seems to have been a rookie at using radio, even shipped her vital telegraph key home "to save weight". Her radio had been modified, which undoubtedly lowered its range. When radio contact with Itasca became her only real hope of finding them, she simply couldn't make good contact.

Kilo-Hotel-Alpha-Quebec-Quebec, or KHAQQ, was Amelia Earhart's radio callsign.

What happed Amelia Mary Earhart?

Flew over the Bermuda Triangle in a storm and fell out of radio contact, some believe she crashed into the ocean or into a landmass.

What are frequenciesfrequencies Amelia Earhart used to talk on the radio?

She was transmitting on 6,210 and 3,105 Kcs, but both of those frequencies need a very long antenna. She had apparently cut this long antenna off earlier, due to the difficulty of constantly winding it in after each transmission.

Did Amelia Earhart have a special training or education?

She had advanced training as a pilot, though some people still claim she was not a good pilot. They are wrong. She admitted to being an average navigator though. That is why she had a highly skilled navigator with her when she disappeared. -------- Regardless of opinion, she had 16 world records in aviation before she turned 40 in 1937. That year she began the training for her world flight in which she disappeared. One instructor, Mark Walker told her aircraft was ill-equipped for the flight. Later during the flight, severe modifications to her radio in Miami, reduced her transmission range from 2,000 miles to 200, and removed the Pan Am frequency, preventing any communication with most ships and the Pan Am world wide network. The reason Amelia Earhart disappeared was her radio. Taken from, Amelia Earhart's Radio Douglas Westfall, historic publisher SpecialBooks.com
