Before the Nazis came to power (30 January 1933) and for some weeks after that, membership of the Party signified commitment to Nazi ideology. From about the end of March 1933 onwards, Party membership often became essential for people in public life and for those holding posts of responsibility in the public sector, such as schoolteachers. By May 1933 when Germany became a one-pary state, outright refusal to join the Party could have unpleasant consquences for people in these categories. So the date of joining is often important. Obviously, many of those who joined in or after April 1933 included people who were committed to the ideology as well as people who joined in the hope of keeping their jobs. A postscript. It depends on the Nazi's job. Some of them would collect the Jewish people, some would keep them in the consentration camps, and some would kill them. Any way, They were all bad.
