When Roosevelt took office, America was in a desperate situation; the majority of Americans believed that he was the one who would bring them relief and fix the broken economy. People placed their hope in him, and the Cartoons reflected that: the cartoons I have seen from his first few months in office mostly present Roosevelt as a heroic figure, ready to take on the Depression and single-handedly defeat it. He is sometimes portrayed as a doctor ready to cure what ails America, or a cowboy riding in to rescue the country. I enclose a link that has some of the political cartoons from that era.

If James Roosevelt was FDRs half brother whose child was he?

James Roosevelt, Franklin's half brother was the child of Franklin's father and his first wife, Rebecca Roosevelt. The first wife died and Franklin's father married Sara Delano. Franklin's half brother was quite a bit older than he, at 28 when Franklin was born. In fact when Franklin enrolled in prep school his half nephew was a year ahead of him.
