From the stories I've heard its a bad luck sign some sailors believe in it some don't just like lightning bold tattoos are supposed to mean bad luck it could just be simply a tattoo to them.
yes I hate to differentiate from the above given answer, but visible tattoos are a big no no in all branches of the military. The Navy MIGHT go a little less hard on you, but I doubt it.
Not that I know of...a lot of people get anchor tattoos to show that they're "grounded" - that their life is stable and fulfilling. Others get them because they have a nautical profession, or to show that they are, or were, in the Navy. And still others get them because they look cool.
it means NOTHING. stop looking for meaning in all tattoos. many tattoos are simply whimsical and fun or aesthetically pleasing. they don't all mean things. try asking the person it's on what it means to them. ---UPDATED RESPONSE: Actually this person is cleary wrong....they do symbolize something. While many tattoo's are gotten by people simply on a whim or for an "aesthetically pleasing" fashion marker, this is not the majority (for smart people at least). Take the swastika for an obvious example....If you did not know its modern day implications of racism, hatred, nazi socialism, intolerance...etc...one might be initially attracted to its modest geometrical construction (and in fact it meant something very different before the Nazi's adopted it). Many tribal and Celtic symbols are very similar in this way, and thus makes them initially appealing for tattoos, i.e., people can attribute their own person justifications for what their tattoo (the geometrical unions) 'symbolizes' to them, in MOST cases. The dual star tattoo's, or "stars above the heart", is in modern day times most commonly associated with eastern European crime family markings. They are an expression of commitment and submission, and are often accompanied by stars tatted on the knee caps as well. There are other representations of this symbol as well, more ancient, which I don't know much about, so if anyone else does, please contribute.... The stars on the knee caps would symbolize that the person with these tattoos has never been brought to their knees and or bows to no authority. Bottom line is, know what your tattoo means to you......but also know it's etymology. Too add to that, if you see the movie "Eastern Promises" Viggro Mortensen in that has starts on his shoulders and knees. The ones on his shoulder symbolize that he has taken responsibility for the crime family and the ones on his knees are for not kneeling before authority. Cheers
In my experience it means "warrior" - Although, there are not many active "warriors" who would get this kind of tattoo and, therefore, give themselves away to the enemy. By the way "warrior" = Navy Seal (as you might recall the Seal insignia).
Evidence of tattoo work has been found in preserved skin of humans dating back to the Neolithic age of man (approximately 9,000 BC). Many very old cultures still practice tattooing, for different reasons.
No not that i no of but if you are wanting to join the navy it is better to ask your local navy club

The anchor in the navy stands for Hope.

None below the wrists, above the neck and possibly none below the knees
It was Sean Connery. He has two small tattoos on his right arm. One says "Scotland forever", the other "Mum and Dad." He got them when he enlisted in the British Navy at the age of 16.
1. women 2. rate insignia 3. warfare pins which ones were you looking at to find the meaning of and i will answer your question as best as possible
first of all i don't know what an "ancorh" is but the anchor is the symbol of the us navy and therefore represents nothing but honor, courage and respect.
Yes, the Navy has a rank of Sergeant. However, it is important to note that the rank structure and designations can vary among different countries' navies. In the United States Navy, the equivalent rank to a Sergeant is a Petty Officer Second Class.
Among them are Reebok, Progressive Insurance, Edge Shave Gel and the US Navy.
There are three parts of the SEAL insignia and these symbolize the areas that Navy SEALs excel in -sea, air and land. Here is the representation of the Navy SEAL insignia: * The anchor and the trident: SEA * The eagle: AIR * The pistol: LAND The pistol is cocked and this represents readiness for battle. The Eagle's wings are spread wide and this represents for courage, and strength.
