During a certain period people who killed a person would paint one nail red with a type of paint. If two were painted, you've killed two men. ETC..The more you killed the more nail's you painted. It was a way of showing that they tainted there hands in blood once or many times... They chose red because... well, blood is red isn't it?? ^-^ hope I helped!
