The colonist from the 13 original colonies declared their independence from England, fought a war, then received their independence from Britain. A new nation was founded called the United States.

The Boston Tea Party. It happened on 16 December, 1773. It was organised by the British colonists as a protest against the tea tax the British king imposed upon them. A group of Americans disguised as Mohawk Indians went on the British ships and threw 342 large boxes of tea into the sea.

In 1777 the Revolutionary War was going on. Washington fought the British at Princeton, NJ in January. Others battles occurred at Benington,Newark, Fort Ticonderoga, Hubbardon, Brandywine, Saratoga, Germantown. The colonial army settled at Valley Forge for the winter, while the British held Philadephia. Marquis de Layette arrived from France in July and was made a major general. In Dec. 1777, France recognized the American government as independent from Britain. The Articles of Confederation were adopted by the Continental Congress.
