Nine enormous dogs enter the barn and chase Snowball off the farm, giving way for Napoleon to assert his control over the other animals. The whole of Animal Farm is an allegory for the Russian Revolution, Bolshevik establishment of Soviet Russia, and the early days of Stalinist rule. This particular moment in the novella demonstrates Joseph Stalin's (Napoleon's) exile and subsequent assassination of Leon Trotsky (Snowball) from the Soviet Union.
