Composite is a term used to refer to the headlamps used in recently built automobiles where the light-producing part is removable from the reflecting part of the lamp assembly. Used to be that headlamps on cars were all of the "sealed beam" variety where it was all one piece. They were easy to change, easy to aim, you got a new clear durable glass lens every time, and they were inexpensive, less than $10.

Why would you leave a system like that alone when you can make an enormous plastic housing that will turn yellow every few years and you can sell a replacement for hundreds of dollars?
