After Frida's accident when she was paralyzed, her mother brought her a lap easel. Frida also had a mirror across the room from her, this sparked off her self-portrait work. Along with self portraits she also painted her husband Diego Rivera and animals. She moved to America after a while however she always felt torn between her Mexican heritage and her life in America. She painted herself with her heart torn out a few times which leads to think that she was forced to move to America and she would much rather be back in Mexico. Frida Painted a few self-portraits of herself with terrifying things happening to her like her skin ripped apart showing her broken spinal column along with nails stabbing into her naked, fragile body. So in conclusion i feel that life and herself was the inspiration of her work.
