Emphasis in Photography is highlighting some aspect of a scene or subject. To emphasize the height of a Basketball player, the photographer may sit on the ground and shoot upward toward the subject. To emphasize a mood, different color lighting may be used. Altering perspective, framing and lighting are just a few of the ways emphasis may be applied.
