The majority of our ponds have an average depth of around 5 foot. But some of the sand pits (tho off-limits to most) reach depths between 40-90 foot deep. There may be some even deeper. But all of Delaware's public ponds are shallow, and all of them are man made. Delaware was criss crossed by rivers until settlers started damming the rivers for easier travel and agriculture. The numerous ponds in Delaware are the results of those early efforts.
