A popular use of the half story's in the 1-1/2 story Cape Cod. The full, lower floor has the main living space rooms of the house, and a bedroom and bathroom. The upper level isn't a complete story. In essence, the half story's a livable attic that's finished into one or more bed and bath rooms, or left unfinished as storage space. It tends to have less floor space, and lower ceilings. In fact, the ceiling-floor height changes. Built under the roof, and therefore like the roof, it slopes downward to the walls. So adults may not even be able to stand up straight in places. It's possible for a complete lower level to take up less floor space than an upper half or full story. For example, it may be divided between living space and an attached garage. The upper level may take up more floor space, because of one or more rooms over the garage. Or another example may be a lower level that's surrounded by a verandah. The upper full or half story may take up more floor space, because of rooms extending over the verandah.

A multi level house is more than 1 floor, ie : 2 or 3 story house... ; also can be referring to a "split level house" split level house : a single house which is like two multi level houses put side by side but the floors don't line up between the two houses.
Most likely would be a traditional 2-story house with a finished attic considered to be the 1/2 story (permanent stairs/walk-up).
These are usually called split-level homes, with a portion of the house being a single story, with the remainder being two-levels, or a home with a "public" level (kitchen, family room) on one level and the bedroooms up a set of steps to another level.
Usually a "half~story" refers to a home where the "attic" is finished and "liveable". ie a "story and a half home". I suppose it could be at ground level if the main level is a "walk out basement" where the primary living space is located.
A single-story house is a residential structure that consists of one level, with all living spaces on the same floor. It does not have any additional levels or stories above or below the main floor.
