Rain Guage
Once rain has fallen, water often returns to the ocean from collection in rivers and lakes. Sometimes water falls directly into the ocean as rain.
I am kind of an old salt. In my day we used the real thing...a mercury "U" tube manometer. It measures inches of water or microns (1 1000 of a meter). In other practical needs, we used water drawn up a plastic pipe. Atmospheric pressure is about 15# or about 30' of water. We did this when drawing water out of shallow wells. Hope this helps.
The Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory developed the first reliable scientific instrument for detecting tsunamis and quickly alerting scientist when tsunami occurs. The instrument, known as TSUNAMETER, is anchored on the ocean floor and measures changes in water pressure when a tsunami passes above.

Humidity means the amount of water vapor in the air. It begins with the letter H.
A rain gauge is the instrument used to measure the amount of rain that has fallen over a specific period of time. Rain gauges come in different designs, but they all function by collecting and measuring the volume of water that has accumulated from precipitation.
A hygrometer is a weather instrument that measures moisture in the atmosphere. It quantifies the amount of water vapor present in the air to provide information about humidity levels.
There are a lot of instruments used to measure water volume. There's also the displacement method to measure liquids.
A rain gauge measures the amount of precipitation (rainfall) that has fallen in a specific area over a period of time. A meter stick is used to measure the depth or height of the water collected in the rain gauge to determine the exact amount of rainfall.

A hygrometer is an instrument that measures relative humidity in the air. It typically works by measuring the amount of water vapor present in the air compared to the maximum amount that the air could hold at a given temperature.
A rain gauge measures the amount of precipitation that falls over a certain period of time in a specific location. It helps to monitor and record rainfall patterns, which is important for weather forecasting, agriculture, and water resource management.
The measurement of inches of rain is determined using a rain gauge, which collects and measures the amount of rainfall that has fallen in a specific area. The collected water is then measured in inches to determine the amount of rainfall.
