the hot side if you happen to get a wrench on a nut and touch the engine or frame with it you will end up with a molten or red hot wrench ( watch bands and rings too)
reconnect the grounded terminal last
The vehicle battery's main purpose is to supply power for the starting system and to power some accessories when the engine is not running. The proper procedure for changing or installing a battery... remove the battery cable first from the negative battery terminal, then from the positive. Install opposite, attach the positive cable lead, then the negative.
If there is a smaller wire to the positive battery cable it probably has an inline fuse link in it. The fuse link is embedded in a hard plastic covering on most chevys. There are many causes for link to be bad, keep this in mind if you bypass the fuse link. Recommend replacing the positive battery cable. Ground cable connection should be checked. Do headlights work?
It is very common for the battery to discharge on a vehicle sitting idle for 3 months. First disconnect the positive + & negative- battery cables, and clean the battery post and cable connections off. Apply a thin layer of dielectric grease or Vaseline to the battery post and connect the negative - cable. Put a battery charger on the battery and let it fully charge overnight. If it will not accept a charge it is defective. It it does show fully charged, connect the positive + cable and see if the engine will start. if not, then more than likely the battery is dead and needs replacing.
Yes
YES always disconnect the negative cable from the battery first then just be careful to hook up the negative cable to the battery as the last step

If you disconnect a battery cable the preset radio stations and the clock has to be reset
First disconnect the Negative terminal cable, then the positive cable (with red cover). Remove the battery holddown. Remove the plastic battery cover, then the battery. Make sure the new battery is of the proper size (see chart in store). Reverse procedure, making sure you connect the Positive terminal first and the negative terminal last (it's a good idea to clean the inside of the cable terminals with emery cloth or steel wool). When putting in the new battery, be careful that the negative cable does not fall into the space below or you will have to remove the new battery to get to it. Start the engine and reset the clock and radio presets.
Unbolt it from the engine after you take it off the battery. Reverse the procedure with the new one.
The battery cable for sure.
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Now disconnect the other end from its ground point. Take that cable to you local auto parts store and buy a replacement. Reverse the procedure to install it.
Remove the negative cable over night. If it does not hold a charge, the battery has a dead cell and needs replacing. If it does hold a charge but will not when the negative cable is connected you have something on that is drawing power from the battery. Some light or a relay is stuck.
Disconnect positive cable first then negative. Reconnect the negative cable first then positive.
Assuming it's like my Ford , you have to reset the preset radio stations every time a battery cable is disconnected
Disconnect the ground and power cables. take out the old battery. put the new one in. put cables back on.
disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 seconds
Remove the ground cable. Remove the support arms that are in the way.Remove the positive cable. Take a ratchet,a 12" extension, and a 13mm socket and remove the holdown fixture located at the bottom of the battery. Install new battery. Reverse procedure. Done.
