You blew the voltage regulator. Depending on the model, it is either a separate component or located inside of your alternator. Based on your problem, I would guess you need a new alternator. Replace it and your car will be fine.

My 2005 Kia Sedona won't start the lights and radio play but it won't turn over. When you turn the key nothing happens Any suggestions?

See if the battery has water. Then see if it will jump with jumper cables. If it will start with jumper cables, your battery had enough amperage to make the lights work and the radio to play but not enough to start the car.

Car won't start and battery won't stay changed.?

First inspect and clean all connections. If you find nothing wrong, replace the battery, especially if it is over 3 years old, or has been discharged more than once. If it will not hold a charge and you know for sure nothing is on, as in, glove box, trunk, interior, brake, light. Are you saying that the car won't start BECAUSE the battery is dead? Will it start if you use jumper cables? Assuming that the car will start if you use jumper cables, get the vehicle started then remove the jumper cables. Use a volt meter to measure the voltage across the battery. You should have somewhere near 13.5 volts if the alternator is working properly. If the voltage is 12.5 volts or less, replace or rebuild the alternator.

Why won't the jumpers cables start your car when there placed right?

If they are hooked up right and the motor won't turn over, you could have a bad battery cable in the car you are trying to start. Try hooking the negative jumper directly to the motor block, if it starts then, you have a bad ground cable. If not, try hooking the positive jumper to the terminal on the starter.

Why do jumper cables melt when trying to jump start a car even when they are hooked up correctly?

There its too much current running through them. If they are hooked up properly then you either have a short some where (positive wire that is touching ground) or the jumper cables can't handle the current demanded by the vehicle you are trying to start. If this is the problem, you need jumper cables that are a thicker gage wire.
