First inspect and clean all connections. If you find nothing wrong, replace the battery, especially if it is over 3 years old, or has been discharged more than once. If it will not hold a charge and you know for sure nothing is on, as in, glove box, trunk, interior, brake, light. Are you saying that the car won't start BECAUSE the battery is dead? Will it start if you use jumper cables? Assuming that the car will start if you use jumper cables, get the vehicle started then remove the jumper cables. Use a volt meter to measure the voltage across the battery. You should have somewhere near 13.5 volts if the alternator is working properly. If the voltage is 12.5 volts or less, replace or rebuild the alternator.
Make sure connections are on tight.

you could try disconnecting both battery leads for 5 mins or so. See if that helps any. There is also a computer fuse in the fuseblock.

When this problem came up with my dodge stratus my husband found that a fuse was blown. We changed our battery and it would not start for us either. but as soon as he fixed some wiring and changed the fuse it was fine.
You may have a weak or dead battery.
Check spark plug wires, and voltage on the distrubutor.

Check the 96 Caddys starter solenoid. Also check the wiring between the battery and the solenoid for any breaks or loose connections.
HI, I have a clio 172, i have recently had that problem with my car, what would be worth doing is actually changing the battery in the key fob, if the battery is week it will not recognise the key and therefore not start. It will crank but not fully start, I changed my battery in the key fob and started first time after!
