! I would suggest power washing the aluminum fence first, then using a special primer (available in most home improvement stores). To paint it, spraying is the best option for an even coat and professional look.

∙ 12y agoGo to the box store and talk to the people at the paint counter. Explain your project. Bring a sample of the stuff you want to paint if you can. Depending on what you are doing, it may just be special prep and primer before you can put regular paint on.

If your siding has any damage you should use a primer. The oil-based primer should be thinned with one pint of paint thinner for each gallon of primer used. You should also check if your siding is aluminum or galvanized steel. that would determine if you should use an oil based or latex paint.
