One of the better crafting paints used to paint plastic jars is acrylic. It's fairly cheap and leaves a nice and polished look that is pleasing to the eye.
If you go to your local hardware store ex. Home Depot Kent's Agathe have spray paint cans available for painting plastic. One brand is Krylon paints. 2. If the bird bath is made of PVC, you will find that the special spray paint intended for vinyl car upholstery sticks very well to the plastic.
With proper preparation, just about any kind of paint can be used on plastic models. A first coat of primer will usually make the color coats turn out better. While there are paints made specifically for models, I find that pa.ints like Krylon and Color Place work just as well

If the handles are plastic, Krylon makes an excellent line of spray paint products that bonds to plastic and adheres to the surface. Most spray paint products only coat the plastic and on a surface like a handle that will be used constantly, is easily scratched or peeled. The Krylon plastic paint bonds to the plastic surface and is very durable. The one down side is if you paint the handles and don't like the results, there is no going backwards, you can't remove the paint once it has cured.
mostly depends on the type of plastic and its surface if its flexible plastic, then the paint will split and crack when the plastic is flexed you can use a paint flexibilizer additive if you need to if the surface of the plastic is very smooth, the paint will not be able to stick to it. if its appropriate, lightly sand the surface to give it what painters call "tooth" it just roughs up the surface a little bit to the paint wont just slide off it when dry there any many types of plastics and some are very tricky to paint
