What part would break if battery was accidentally installed backward and Car tuns but wont start which at best it would false start and slightly backfire for one or two engine cycles?

Nothing will break, but you will have a direct short to ground, and if you're lucky, the battery will just discharge without exploding....
First of all,I Cannot see how the starter pinion gear will mesh with the flywheel at all if the starter motor was to turn in reverse, and second i think the solenoid contacts would break before anything would happen.....
