Information for Social Security Disability claims can be found at the SSA website. Please refer to the link on this answer page. Anyone with a debilitating condition that has enough SS credits can apply for SSD. The condition as a rule, has to be such that the person is unable to engage in gainful employment for at least one year. The filing process can be complicated and frustrating. There will be a lot of paperwork, and you will need supporting documents, from doctors, clinics, etc. Sometimes the SSA requires you to be examined by a physician of their choice. Contact your local SSA office, for instructions, much of it can be done by phone. Be advised that it will take a minimum of six months for any decision on your claim. Persons who qualify for SSD may also be eligible for SSI and Medicare benefits. But contact the SSA right away, even though approval is going to take six months. Once you receive approval, your benefits will be paid from the day you applied, so wasting time is wasting money! Are you trying to get disability benefits or obtain a disability policy? If you are trying to obtain a personal policy and your symptoms are mild or controlled with non steroidal drugs then you can obtain coverage. == == == == For information, resources and related links go The National Council On Disability (NCD) In Australia if you are unable to work as a result of a health condition and you dont have insurance or any other form of regular income you are covered by the governments disability pension as is most of the cost of drugs and hospitalization surgery (ETC)

There are two types of Social Security Disability benefits you can apply for if rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) has made it impossible for you to work: Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). These programs both require you to be able to prove that your rheumatoid arthritis completely prevents you from performing any type of work activity. The easiest way to do so is to submit medical documentation that proves your RA meets the criteria in the Social Security Administration’s Blue Book. RA is found in Section 14 of the Blue Book, under the heading “Inflammatory Arthritis.†In addition to proving your diagnosis, you must be able to prove at least one of the following: (1) You suffer from persistent inflammation or deformity in one of your major weight-bearing joints, which results in the inability to move freely. (2) Your condition affects both of your arms and prevents you from performing everyday tasks. (3) Other organs are involved, causing at least two of the following symptoms: severe fatigue, fever, malaise, and/or involuntary weight loss. Or (4) you suffer from repeated rheumatoid arthritis flare-ups with at least two of the following symptoms that cause limitations in your daily living activities: fever, fatigue, unexplained weight loss. Once disability is proved, the other aspects of qualifying for each program differ based on your work history and income level.

Is alcohol bad for arthritis?

There is a lot of argument on this subject. the first thing that we should remember is that there are more then 100 different forms of arthritis which are the result of different conditions in the body. every thing from wear and tear to chemical buildups such as gout (which is affected adversely by alcohol consumption) to auto immune system problems. However there are many sufferer of arthritis that will swear on a stack of bibles that wines, especially red wines make arthritis symptoms appear worse. So it stands to reason that there may be something in the claim that wine is bad for arthritis. At present aside from gout, there is no real evidence that arthritis is affected by wine one way or the other. I have Rheumatoid arthritis and once thought that wine was bad for arthritis, however these days I drink wine within reason and have no more or less problems then I had when I was not drinking it. It may very well be a case of different reactions apply to different people. I personally think that an over simplistic connection between wine and arthritis was made because wine is acidic and people know that bones are made of calcium. acid eats away calcium, so it stands to reason that wine causes damage to joints. What they forget is that cartilage is not made of calcium and that the initial cause for the symptoms of arthritis is damaged or worn cartilage.

What is the difference between traumatic arthritis and degenerative arthritis?

No, they appear pretty much exactly the same way as dark shadows called' hot spots'. The history of the patient is what makes the difference in making the diagnosis. For example: If one claims to have injured the area in the past then a doctor may diagnose traumatic arthritis. If one does not claim previous injury to the area then a doctor may diagnose degenerative arthritis.
