There have been at least two "famous" earthquakes that have affected Chile.

The Valdivia earthquake that occurred at 19:11 GMT, 14:11 local time on the 22nd of May 1960 Chile 1960 and which at Magnitude 9.5 was the largest earthquake ever recorded on earth.

The recent (27th of February 2010) earthquake occurred at 06:34 GMT, 03:34 local time and had a magnitude of 8.8.
