We know Vincent valued the advice he got from Anton Mauve and Camille Pissarro. He admired his colleague Paul Gauguin. It is not known whether he admired any of his predecessors. And before Vincent was famous he had been dead for many years.

Dr. Gachet was recommended to Van Gogh by Camille Pissarro. Gachet had previously treated several artists and was an amateur artist himself.
He apparently received his early artistic training in a goldsmith's workshop, and then worked briefly in the studio of Lorenzo Ghiberti.

A self taught artist has not received any training from professional people, they have probably from a young age loved to sing and so over they years they've experiemented with different sounds, they've discovered whether they're saprano, middle or alto and they've tried out new things according to their style wheras a trained artist has received vocal training, they've learnt that by using different facial positions they can create different sounds and they've been taught to always stand up straight and never slump as it affects their performance.
