He made many designs for various kinds of flying machines, none of which would have worked but all of which showed great ingenuity and an awareness of the problems. There has been some speculation that he may have actually had a large kite built from which a man could dangle and glide a short distance, but this has never been proven. Michelangelo's designs are for buildings almost exclusively.
