The ship of the line. In all of his time leading France he only routed the Royal Navy once and that was in 1793 a full six years before he became the First Consul of France, when he drove the British out of Toulon and out to sea with artillery fire. The Royal Navy isolated his expedition in Egypt, prevented his control of Haiti, prevented the success of the Continental System and destroyed his larger combined French and Spanish fleet at Trafalgar. It stood between his dream of a victory in Europe by defending the Fortress Moat called the English Channel.
